STUDI FENOMENOLOGI PRAKTIK KLINIK MAHASISWA PROFESI NERS DI YELLOW ZONE COVID-19
The high number of cases of COVID-19 affects the clinical practice for the nurse professional program, which results in several cycles of students practicing in the COVID-19 yellow zone. Patients in this zone are not yet known to be positive for COVID-19 or not, so they are at risk of transmitting it to students. Previous studies suggest that students’ competence was still low in preventing the COVID-19 infection. Objective : To identify the clinical practice experience of nursing professional students in the COVID-19 yellow zone. Methods : This research employed a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. In-depth interviews were conducted with 5 students who had practiced in the COVID-19 Yellow Zone on July 5-30, 2021. Furthermore, the interview results were processed using the Colaizzi technique. Results : This research generated 5 main themes, namely (1) ambivalent emotions, (2) protective behaviour, (3) clinical practice service dilemmas, (4) expectations to be supported, and (5) coping mechanisms as adaptation solutions. Discussion : The practice in the COVID-19 yellow zone room created an ambivalent emotional response that obstructed the practice of providing services to COVID-19 patients. This could be seen in the expression of participants who expected support from educational institutions and hospitals. Conclusion : The research results indicate several obstacles and expectations of students in the COVID-19 yellow zone, so it is expected that education institution and hospital can improve preparation and provide support in the form of training and guidance to nursing professional students who practice in the COVID-19 Yellow Zone.
