Dental and gum diseases begin with the formation of plaque on the tooth surface, as a result of the activities of bacteria in the oral cavity. Elimination of the bacteria as caries causal has been done in many ways, one of them by using plant extracts which have anticariogenic activities, such as gambir (Uncaria Gambir [Roxb.]). The aim of this study was to determine the effect of chewing candy containing gambir on the decrease of bacterial colonies and dental plaque formation. \nMethods. A Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design had been conducted in SMPN 17 of Junior High School in Palembang and Province’s Health Laboratory of South Sumatera, Indonesia. The population consisted of 50 participants, divided into 5 groups. Each group was chewing with 5%, 7.5%, 10% extract-gambir candies, no chewing candies, and chewing sucrose’s candies. Data were analyzed by using SPSS vers 22. \nResult. The results showed that all candies containing gambir extract were able to reduce the formation of dental plaque and to decrease the bacterial colonies in saliva. The best effect of this study was 10% extract-gambir candies. \nConclusion. 摘要

背景。牙齿和牙龈疾病是世界上许多国家面临的健康问题。牙齿和牙龈疾病始于牙齿表面形成牙菌斑,这是口腔内细菌活动的结果。消除作为龋齿原因的细菌有许多方法,其中之一是使用具有抗致癌性活性的植物提取物,如甘比尔(Uncaria gambir [roxx .])。本研究的目的是确定含甘碧的咀嚼糖对减少细菌菌落和牙菌斑形成的影响。方法。在印度尼西亚巨港市第17所初中的SMPN和南苏门答腊省卫生实验室中进行了测试前-测试后对照组设计。总共有50名参与者,分为5组。各组分别咀嚼含5%、7.5%、10%甘草糖、不咀嚼糖和咀嚼蔗糖糖。数据采用SPSS 22进行分析。结果。结果表明,含甘比尔提取物的糖果均能减少牙菌斑的形成,减少唾液中的细菌菌落。本研究的最佳效果是10%的提取物甘比亚糖。结论。由此可见,甘比糖提取物对牙菌斑的形成和菌落的减少是有效的。
