Cost Optimization of a Wind Power Integrated Thermal Power Plant
Integrating a wind power source with a thermal power plant via isolated grid can smooth out the power distribution by partial load sharing and it also can be utilized as backup source. This paper focuses on reduction of generation cost of a thermal plant by reducing its fuel consumption. This paper considers the economic load dispatch control method and load flow analysis method with revisions to incorporate the operating constraints such as real and reactive power generation, transmission losses, lifetime, generation cost. The goal of the load flow analysis is to determine whether this integration is possible or not. The economic dispatch control method helps to determine the reduction of generation cost after wind power integration. Finally, it is shown that the generation cost is reduced and by series compensation method the active power flow in the line is also improved as well as system stability.
