During his life time Mir was accorded wide recognition as a great poet of North India and nowadays his ghazals are still popular and loved by Urdu speaking people. The main difficulties of a researcher concern many inaccuracies in biographic facts, principles of selecting ghazals to be analysed, the difficulties in translating ghazals to other languages and some other problems. The majority of papers on Mir are in Urdu.
