Influence of Electromagnetic Field Emitted by Base Station Antenna on Cardiac Pacemakers - Clinical Study
Rapid growth in wireless mobile communications has generated awareness about electromagnetic interferences of cardiac pacemaker with cellular phones and base station antenna. The work discusses threats connected with a possibility of interference of external electromagnetic fields with the functioning of cardiac pacemakers. The authors demonstrate the preliminary research results of research. The intention of this work was to test a several pacemaker models to determine whether incompatibility with base station antenna may exist. In vivo measuring setup was established and 53 different implanted models of 4 manufacturers were examined. The key point of the research procedure was a patient with implanted pacemaker who moves in the area of emission from base antenna. The operation parameters of the implanted pacemaker were monitored by the 24 hour Holter registration. No dysfunctions of pacemaker were registered.
