Abstract: Several studies have already discussed the consequences that coalitions have for party fragmentation and representativity in brazilian proportional elections. This work intends to present some of these ideas and analyze the dynamics between these variables in the context of the 2020 brazilian municipal elections. For this, an exploratory study is developed with comparisons between the data of 2016 and 2020 elections, seeking to identify possible consequences of the end of the coalitions e possible impacts in the national elections of 2022 are also discussed. The analyzes suggest influence of the end of coalitions on the decrease of fragmentation of small districts and changes in the electoral strategies of the parties.
