The aim of the article is to present the main topics addressed by the German press in the first decade (2001–2010) after the publication of PISA results. A method of Critical Discourse Analysis was used in the research process, which made it possible to draw a conclusion that, on the one hand, educational problems highlighted by the media reflect society’s interest in education, and on the other hand, they may lead to an in-depth scrutiny of the emphasised phenomena, as well as of decisions to take specific, initiatives at the grassroots level (theory of utility and benefit, theory of opposite decoding).
