“Between the Scylla of the Ticket Booth and the Charybdis of Ideology": On the Experience of Historical Interpretation of Soviet Rural Cinema

Статья представляет собой размышления по поводу монографии Л.Н. Мазур и О.В. Горбачева «Советские фильмы о деревне: опыт исторической интерпретации художественного образа» (2022), посвященной методологическим, теоретическим и конкретно-предметным вопросам изучения советских художественных фильмов как уникального источника по истории российской деревни ХХ века. Особое внимание уделено специфике транскрибирования, «прочтения» и интерпретации авторами монографии художественного кинематографического текста, выявлению ими его информационной отдачи в процессе реконструкции основных сюжетов советской сельской истории и сельской повседневности. Скрупулезный анализ советской «деревенской» фильмографии 1920-х – начала 1990-х гг. позволил авторам книги рассмотреть это кино как образец явного социального заказа, репрезентирующего трансформирующуюся позицию власти по отношению к советскому крестьянству, но в то же время получить эксклюзивные сведения о жизни советской деревни, отсутствующие в источниках иной типо-видовой принадлежности. The article is a reflection on the monograph by Ludmila N. Mazur and Oleg V. Gorbachev "Soviet films about the village: the experience of historical interpretation of the artistic image" (2022). It is dedicated to the methodological, theoretical, and specific-object issues of studying the Soviet feature films as a unique source on the history of the Russian village of the 20th century. Particular attention is paid to the specifics of transcribing, "reading" and interpretation by the authors of the monograph of the cinematographic text, the identification of its informative impact in the reconstruction of the main plots of Soviet rural history and rural daily life. A scrupulous analysis of the Soviet "village" filmography of the 1920s ­− early 1990s allowed the authors of the book to consider this cinema as an example of a clear social order, which represents the transforming position of the authorities in relation to the Soviet peasantry. However, at the same time it allows to obtain exclusive information about the life of the Soviet village, missing in sources of other type and species.
