One step in this process of culture research is watching English-language movies, which is made much simpler by the use of subtitles. Through the investigation of first-year students' attitudes and opinions, this research aims at exploring and reflecting on the function of English movies with subtitles in teaching and studying English at the university level and pointing out the difference between two types of subtitles, in terms of how they can facilitate English teaching and studying. To conduct this research, the quantitative method was used, with the help of a survey questionnaire.
