Systems engineering has numerous guiding propositions scattered across various publications and classified under different schema, leading to confusion and inconsistency. This paper presents a framework for understanding the origin and evolution of any guiding proposition and developing such a guiding proposition into a principle to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0.
