肝脏切除术是治疗各种原发性或转移性肝癌患者的重要组成部分，其中许多手术现在都可以在腹腔镜下进行。然而，半肝切除术（切除整个右侧或左侧肝脏）是否也能在不影响肿瘤治疗效果的情况下在腹腔镜下进行仍有待确定。目前，ORANGE II PLUS III 期试验的数据证实了腹腔镜方法的可行性，并证明腹腔镜方法可改善功能恢复。332 名需要进行半肝切除术的患者（85% 为癌症适应症）被随机分配（1:1）接受腹腔镜或开腹手术。在癌症患者中，大多数（占整个组群的50%）为结直肠癌转移，22.1%为原发性肝细胞癌，14.2%为胆管癌。功能恢复时间是主要终点。
