We tested the effect of waking rest on memory for these words and pictures by manipulating the state that participants entered just after this task (rest vs. active wake). Trait anxiety levels were measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and examined as a covariate. Waking rest improved emotional memory consolidation for individuals high in trait anxiety.
