Previously, naproxen was evaluated for its antimicrobial potency in various studies. In our study, we aimed to demonstrate the antibacterial and synergistic activities of naproxen and ciprofloxacin against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 700603. The results showed promising antibacterial activity against tested Gram-positive bacteria. However, there was no effect on Gram-negative bacteria. Additionally, checkerboard assays did not reveal any additive or synergistic activity when combined with Ciprofloxacin. Collectively, our study's data show naproxen's selectivity against Gram-positive bacteria.
