The blackened males were seldom attacked by non-blackened males and females. By contrast, neither aggressive behaviours nor black colouration changes were observed in the transparent background condition with a brighter environment. These indicated that the blackened markings in <i>O. celebensis</i> serve as a social signal depending on the environmental backgrounds.
