Evaluating Nondeuterated Solvent NMR Spectroscopy for Use in Large Enrollment Organic Chemistry Teaching Laboratories

In this Communication we describe the use of nondeuterated solvent NMR spectroscopy experiments in large enrollment organic chemistry teaching laboratories. We use deuterated solvent free NMR spectroscopic analysis of several base promoted alkyl halide substitution and elimination reactions, which are taught ubiquitously in undergraduate organic chemistry, to demonstrate its utility and reliability for large enrollment classes.
