Based on morphology and DNA analysis of ITS and LSU sequences of the collected specimens, <i>N. pseudoingrata</i> belongs to <i>Neohygrocybe</i> sect. <i>Neohygrocybe</i> together with <i>N. ovina, N. nitrata</i> and <i>N. ingrata</i>.
