The population consisted of 72 maternal half-sib families derived from a hybrid population of <i>Solanum phureja-S. stenotomum</i> originally bred for adaptation to long-day conditions in North Carolina, and which subsequently underwent four cycles of selection for resistance to late blight in Pennsylvania; TPS from 58 of these families are being released. The population is segregating widely for early blight resistance and tuber skin color and texture, shape, eye depth, flesh color and specific gravity.
