Using international indicators to measure the innovation capacity of companies has been usual at the Latin American level. However, these concepts do not show the same aca-demic clarity in the state-of-the-art. This article aims to explain the relationship between innovation capacity and the innovation index in Latin America regarding the international context. The method comprised a systematic review identifying first the countries that evidence empirical studies related to innovation capacity. And second, it established that the relationship between the innovation capacity and the innovation index. Result proposed a technical efficiency index to analyse the differences between Latin America and the international context. The principal contribution of the study is that it explains the innovation capacities of global innovation through the proposed technical efficiency index.
