Prevalencia y causas de ceguera y discapacidad visual en Colombia
This work stems from an intent to write on the prevalence and main causes of blindness and visual impairment in Colombia based on the literature reports. To do so, a thematic review of articles published in the scientific literature was carried out, in the databases Pubmed, Lilacs and Scielo. The search also covered the blindness and visual impairment reports by the Colombian Ministry of Health. Seven articles about blindness and visual impairment in Colombia were found, including an official report by the Ministry of Health. It is concluded that the information available on the prevalence of blindness and visual impairment in Colombia is poor regarding the objective quality. This fact may limit the impact and usefulness thereof when a visual health policy is to be developed.
