Linfadenectomía inguinal por video endoscopia (VEIL) para el manejo de cáncer vulvar en el Instituto Nacional de Cancerología (Bogotá, Colombia)
Abstract
Vulvar cancer accounts for 2% to 5% of all gynecological cancers worldwide, among which squamous cell carcinoma is the most common followed by melanoma. Surgery is the cornerstone in the treatment of vulvar neoplasia, and evaluating lymph node status is a powerful predictor of survival. Inguino-femoral lymphadenectomy is part of the treatment strategies. The minimally invasive surgical approach by video endoscopy (VEIL), is an alternative to the open approach that reduces postoperative morbidity such as surgical wound dehiscence, lymphocele, lymphedema, infection, and psychosexual deterioration. The surgical technique of inguinal lymphadenectomy by video endoscopy (VEIL), as a novel approach for managing this cancer in the country, is described next.
