Chinese women in society: Confucian past, ambiguous emancipation and access to higher education
The article aims to draw attention to educational inequalities concerning Chinese women. The text is dedicated to the following areas: Confucian conditions of social practices and beliefs, ambiguous emancipation in the post-imperial period, and contemporary problems of gender inequality in access to higher education.

The International Journal of Chinese Education (IJCE) is a result of the collaboration between Brill Academic Publishers and the Institute of Education at Tsinghua University. It aims to strengthen Chinese academic exchanges and cooperation with other countries in order to improve Chinese educational research and promote Chinese educational development.
