Salah satu faktor pemicu awal (primary impact) adalah terjadinya kekurangan nutrien (nutrients shortage) pada perairan laut. Pada pihak lain, ketersediaan nutrien di perairan laut pada wilayah-wilayah tertentu sangat dipengaruhi oleh fenomena upwelling. Fenomena upwelling terjadi karena adanya arus lintas Indonesia yang juga turut berpengaruh terhadap musim. Makalah ini membahas keterkaitan antara serangan penyakit ice-ice, arus lintas Indonesia, fenomena upwelling, downwelling dan musim dalam kaitannya dengan upaya untuk mencegah potensi dan mengelola serangan ice-ice melalui perendaman pupuk yang mengandung sumber unsur N (nitrogen), P (fosfor) dan K (kalium) dikombinasikan dengan pembersihan rutin dan pengaturan posisi tanam terhadap permukaan air. Tindakan manipulasi terbatas lingkungan budidaya rumput laut pada periode musim ekstrim terbukti efektif mengendalikan penyakit ice-ice sekaligus diyakini mampu mempertahankan kontinuitas produksi.Ice-ice disease attacks in certain season on seaweed cultivation Kappaphycus alvarezii are a serious problem, which are caused by interaction of various factors. One of the primary impact is the occurrence of nutrients shortage in marine waters. Meanwhile, availability of nutrients in marine waters in certain areas is strongly influenced by upwelling phenomenon. Upwelling phenomenon occurs due to the Indonesian throughflow which also affect the season. This paper discusses the correlation between ice-ice disease attacks, Indonesian throughflow, phenomenon of upwelling, downwelling and season in connection with efforts to prevent potential and manage ice-ice attacks through immersion of fertilizer which containing source of N (nitrogen), P (phosporus) and K (potassium) elements in combination with regular weeding and setting position of planting towards water surface. PENGENDALIAN PENYAKIT ICE-ICE BUDIDAYA RUMPUT LAUT, Kappaphycus alvarezii: KORELASI MUSIM DAN MANIPULASI TERBATAS LINGKUNGAN
