In this context, this study proposes a hierarchical model with identified barriers to smart grid acceptance by consumers in India. Seventeen barriers to consumers’ acceptance of smart grid technology were identified through a literature survey. Data were collected from 221 respondents through a questionnaire survey, and variables were measured on a 5-point Likert scale. EFA was used for data validation and extraction of the hidden construct. Six hidden constructs were identified, and a “hierarchical model” was developed by applying the Fuzzy-TISM methodology.
