In addition, it is involved in different pathologies, including cancers, ischemia, macular degeneration and inflammatory bowel disease. The regulation of angiogenesis is multifaceted and according to recent data includes transcriptional modulation by enhancers and non-coding RNAs as well as post-transcriptional regulation by microRNAs.
