Looking at Securitization as a Sociotechnical Activity: Lessons From a Cold War Past for AI Futures

While it is often said that every generation has to learn from its own mistakes, there is still insight to draw from the stories of those who have ventured before us. Stories connect us to ourselves and to one another. As part of an autoethnographic practice, they serve as sensemaking tools, shedding light on phenomena from a deeply personal perspective. Seeing ourselves in the story may help us to unlock meaningful tools for transdisciplinary sensemaking to take into our futures. Seeing securitization as a complex sociotechnical system draws us deeper into the perpetual nature of the pursuit of security.
