The Use of Ginseng to Treat Disturbances of Sexual Hormones in the Ovaries Caused by Chemical Doses of Doxorubicin (Drug)
Natural pharmaceutical compounds are relied upon for the treatment of many diseases due to their capacity to possess natural ingredients with medicinal properties that can treat side effects resulting from the toxicity of chemical compounds, such as drugs that treat cancer. We prefer to use ginseng, which is well known for the treatment of stubborn infertility cases and hormonal disorders associated with menopause, hence the importance of this study and the possibility of benefiting from the use of ginseng to treat negative side effects resulting from the use of the drug Doxorubicin. Doxorubicin is a widely-used anti-cancer drug, but it causes a number of negative side effects when treating tumours, including its effect on Graafian follicles and corpus luteum bodies, which play a major role in ovarian activity. We conclude that ginseng is able to maintain near-normal levels of sex hormones despite the presence of the toxic effect of Doxorubicin on ovarian activity. This is due to ginseng’s beneficial effect on the abnormal stimulation of gonadal cells or the increase in hormonal secretion (FSH & LH). Ginseng is also able to stimulate the genes responsible for producing ovarian hormones by mimicking their receptors instead of their original complex. This might result in an improvement in the number of ovulation phases. KEYWORDS Corpus luteum, cytotoxic, graafian follicle, pituitary gland, progesterone, sex hormones
