Despite 80% of people with type 2 diabetes live in low and middle-income countries; many studies on depression and its associated factors among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were conducted in the developed world. Objective: The present study was aimed to assess prevalence of depression and associated factors among type 2 diabetes patients attending hospitals in Ilu AbaBor and Bunno Bedelle Zones, South West Ethiopia, 2020. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was conducted on 354 type 2 diabetes patients attending hospitals of Ilu AbaBor and Bunno Bedelle Zones from January 1 to March 30, 2020. Convenient sampling technique was used to select study participants after the sample size was allocated to each hospital. Data were entered into EpiData manager version 4.2.2 and exported to statistical package for the social science (SPSS) version 20.0 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Bivariate and Multivariate logistic regressions. The statistical significance was set at p<0.05 Results: Out of the 354 patients recruited, 321 (90.7%) patients were involved in the study. The mean age of the participants was 41.3 with SD of 12.8 years. The prevalence depression was 118 (34.9%) of which 20.9% of participants were moderately depressed. Age [AOR 2.7; 95%, CI: 1.10, 6.43], family or social support [AOR=1.7, 95% CI: 1.37, 2.57], having diabetic complications [AOR=3.8, 95% CI: 1.61, 9.37] and level FBS [AOR=5, 95% CI: 1.93, 12.68] were the factors significantly associated with depression Conclusion: Relative to global estimation, the prevalence of depression was high among patients with type 2 diabetes.
