A pesar de que los mismos llevaban dos siglos efectuándose, si bien es verdad que de forma intermitente y a través de embajadas concretas, el reinado del primer Borbón en España significó el establecimiento de los lazos entre ambas potencias sobre unas bases firmes. La base de todo ello, fue sin duda el establecimiento de embajadas permanentes en ambas capitales, cuya consecuencia directa fue una presencia diplomática constante en las mismas, unida a un intercambio continuo de información, relativa tanto a la realidad de los contactos entre estos reinos, como a las diferentes realidades de cada uno de ellos, muy distintas entre sí a la par que desconocidas en buena medida entre ellos. Las principales motivaciones para ello fueron las de carácter económico y político, que tuvieron diferente relevancia durante este periodo. It was the reign of the first Bourbon ruler in Spain that established a real improvement in relations between the two powers on a firm basis. The foundation of all this, was undoubtedly the establishment of permanent embassies in both capitals, which brought about a constant diplomatic presence. There followed a continuous exchange of information between these two kingdoms. They also became aware of the different social and political situations in each of the two countries, that had previously been largely unknown to each other.
