Management of Infected Implant Site Using Laser Therapy-A Case Report
In addition to conventional treatment modalities, the use of lasers has been increasingly proposed for the treatment of periodontal and peri-implant infections. A 42-year-old female patient had two implants in relation to 36,37 which after healing period of three months revealed distal radiolucency of the implant in relation to 36. Local and systemic anti-infective therapies were performed as an adjunct to mechanical treatment. This condition resolved after the use of soft tissue diode laser. During the procedure, laser was used for decontamination of implant sockets and implant surfaces , then the implant sockets were augmented. Augmentation was performed with bone and memebrane substitutes, which resulted in decreased radiolucency within the implant sockets resulting in appreciable osseointegration.Laser decontamination provided the opportunity to augment the sites without losing soft and hard tissues
