Penelitian menggunakan Research and Development (R&D) model 4D dimodifikasi menjadi 3D (define, design, develop) karena terbatasnya waktu dan materi yang diperlukan dalam penelitian agar menyelesaikan penelitian ini hingga tahap uji keterbacaan produk. Penelitian ini merupakan tahap define dan menggunakan teknik analisis data deskriptif. Instrumen penelitian berupa wawancara guru fisika serta angket kebutuhan siswa dan guru. Studi pendahuluan melibatkan 45 siswa dan 3 guru fisika di 3 SMAN Kota Bengkulu. Hasil angket kebutuhan guru menyatakan sebesar 100% guru belum melibatkan pembelajaran fisika dengan menghubungkan pengetahuan sains dan budaya lokal Bengkulu dan angket kebutuhan siswa juga menyatakan sebesar 89% guru mereka belum melibatkan pembelajaran fisika dengan budaya lokal Bengkulu. Berdasarkan hasil angket kebutuhan siswa dan guru juga dinyatakan bahwa 84% siswa menjawab “ya” yang termasuk kategori “sangat setuju” dan 100% guru menjawab “ya” dengan kategori “sangat setuju” apabila modul materi suhu dan kalor berbasis etnosains (Batik Besurek) ini dapat dikembangkan. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan diperlukan bahan ajar alternatif berupa modul fisika berbasis etnosains (Batik Besurek) materi suhu dan kalor untuk siswa kelas XI MIPA di SMAN Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian ini mengimplikasikan analisis kebutuhan pengembangan modul suhu dan kalor berintegrasi kearifan lokal, dikarenakan belum adanya pengembangan modul di tempat penelitian, sehingga dapat memotivasi pembelajaran siswa dan guru dalam mengenal kearifan lokal Bengkulu kegiatan membatik kain besurek. This study aims to describe the needs analysis for developing an ethnoscience-based heat and temperature material module (Batik Besurek) for class XI MIPA students at SMAN Bengkulu City. The 4D Research and Development (R&D) model was modified to 3D (define, design, develop) due to the limited time and material needed to complete this research up to the product legibility test stage. This research is a defined stage and uses descriptive data analysis techniques. The research instruments were interviews with physics teachers and questionnaires for the needs of students and teachers. The preliminary study involved 45 students and 3 physics teachers at 3 Bengkulu City High Schools. The results of the teacher need questionnaire stated that 100% of teachers had not been involved in physics learning by linking science knowledge and local Bengkulu culture. The student needs questionnaire also stated that 89% of their teachers had not been involved in physics learning with Bengkulu's local culture. Based on the results of the questionnaire on the needs of students and teachers, it was also stated that 84% of students answered \"yes\" which was included in the \"strongly agree\" category, and 100% of teachers answered \"yes\" in the \" strongly agree\" category if the material temperature and heat module is based on ethnoscience (Batik Besurek) it can be developed. The results of this study concluded that an alternative teaching material was needed in the form of an ethnoscience-based physics module (Batik Besurek) on temperature and heat for class XI MIPA students at SMAN Bengkulu City.
