The purpose of this study is to determine the physical properties of citronella essential oil (Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle) and to assess its antibacterial activity against MRSA. Citronella essential oil was extracted using a water-steam distillation method, yielding 0.5 percent. Citronella essential oil has a specific gravity of 0.904, a refractive index of 1.470, and is slightly soluble in 80 percent ethanol. All of these parameters were in accordance with the Indonesian Standard Requirement (SNI) for Citronella essential oil. The disc diffusion assay was used to test the antibacterial activity of this Citronella essential oil. 摘要

在治疗传染病时不合理使用抗生素可导致耐抗生素菌株的出现,如耐甲氧西林金黄色葡萄球菌(MRSA)。本研究旨在测定香茅精油(Cymbopogon nardus, L.)的物理性质。Rendle)并评估其对MRSA的抗菌活性。采用水蒸气蒸馏法提取香茅精油,提取率为0.5%。香茅精油的比重为0.904,折射率为1.470,微溶于80%乙醇。这些参数均符合香茅精油的印尼标准要求(SNI)。采用圆盘扩散法测定香茅精油的抑菌活性。结果表明,香茅精油具有体外抑制MRSA的活性。
