The emergence of complex and dynamic ecosystems is one of the expected impacts. The present research project will analyze the business models of ecosystems in the manufacturing industry in the upcoming project phase. To enable this analysis, we generated two intermediate products which will be presented in this article: A role model of the manufacturing industry and the identification of key digitalization technologies and their application. The role model consists of 25 roles and builds on the model of interlinked value creation processes for Industrie 4.0 by the German VDI/VDE societies.
