Abstract
The application of inductor alternators for producing high frequency power supplies has been studied. In an industrial environment, it is proposed that such alternators can be driven by bio-mass gasifier based systems. Also the field winding can be excited from photo voltaic panels, leading to substantial saving in grid power, Apart from supplying high frequency loads, the alternator can also be made to supply 50 Hz ac fan and lighting loads as well as dc loads such as battery charging, using suitable power electronic converters. For such a multipurpose loading system, microcontroller based control circuits have been developed and built for the various converters, resulting in overall reliability and compactness. The simulated and experimental results provided for various categories of loads demonstrate the utility of the proposal in exploitation of non-conventional energy sources for industrial applications.
