Abstract

The article presents a synthesized analysis of the work of Western scientists on the theory of cognitive flexibility in the context of actualizingits potential as one of the basic competencies of the future professionals. The interpretation of cognitive flexibility from the standpoint of different fields of study is shown. The essence of cognitive rigidity as an opposition of cognitive flexibility and the theory of cognitive flexibility as an important component of the education system is clarified. The essence of cognitive competence of the future specialist as a set of qualities based on worldviews and knowledge, skills, abilities, social experience of the future specialist, which allow him to quickly adapt to different living conditions, maintain emotional behavioral stability, respond flexibly, act and make optimal decisions in standard and unpredictable professional situations, is determined.
