Abstract

In this study, 10 Wistar albino rats were used to study cortical layer thicknesses in three brain regions (Somatosensory cortex hind limb representaion (S1HL), Barrel field (S1BF) and Motor cortex (M1). Morphometric measurements were performed on Nissl stained brain sections. Results showed that there are significant differences in layers II, III, IV, V across these brain regions. The importance of this is discussed in relation to neuroprosthetic applications.
