Abstract

The presented article deals the history of wheat production, the factors that make wheat an essential food product, local wheat varieties obtained as a result of successful selection of local scientists and specialists, analyzes the production volumes of the world's leading countries for wheat production, average yield indicators, the situation with the production and trade of wheat in the world, the dynamics of changes in wheat prices in world markets, the demand for food wheat in our country, an increase in production and stocks of wheat, as well as state support measures to regulate imports, the economic consequences of Russia's military intervention in Ukraine and China's increase in food stocks, the role of Ukraine in world production and trade of wheat, a number of problems that impede the increase in wheat production in the country are indicated, the need to increase the average yield and stocks of wheat, diversify the geography of imports in order to further improve the current situation is substantiated. The article emphasizes that if our liberated territories are again involved in the economy, this will make a significant contribution to providing the country with wheat, and the situation in this direction will improve.
