Abstract

The paper presents a method for non-contact and non-invasive study and monitoring of cut-off wheel wear upon elastic abrasive cutting by applying the methods of infrared thermography and planned experiments. Theoretical and experimental models reflecting the dependence between cut-off wheel wear, cut-off wheel temperature and workpiece temperature have been built for different materials being machined (C45 and 42Cr4 steels). Temperature control possibilities are studied by choosing elastic abrasive cutting conditions so as to ensure the desired cut-off wheel wear values.
