INTEGRATIVE APPLICATIONS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

Abstract

Diabetes is a chronic and systemic disease, characterized by hyperglycemia, with an increasing incidence and prevalence, which seriously affects the lives of individuals with acute and chronic complications. Endothelial damage and microvascular disorders occur as a result of inflammation and oxidative stress, with the increase of protein glycation, non-enzymatic glycation, and consequently the increase of end products in the tissues with hyperglycemia in diabetes. As a result of these events, peripheral and autonomic neuropathy develops in diabetic patients due to demyelination of Schwann cells and decreased neuronal blood flow and nerve ischemia. Neuropathic pain patients due to diabetic peripheral neuropathy are seen in approximately 1/4 of the patients, and it negatively affects their quality of life.
