Abstract

A cluster tessellation model (CTM) which combines the advantage of grain-based model and image-based model is utilized to study the damage evolution of Beishan granite (BG). First, the CTM which could take into account the meso-structure of the mineral grain shape and distribution characteristics was constructed. Then, based on the model, many uniaxial and biaxial compression experiments were implemented to verify the rationality of the CTM. The model can reproduce macro-properties and failure modes of the BG and the meso-structure significantly influenced the deformation and failure characteristics.
