SPECIFIC FEATURES OF LINGUISTIC REALIZATION OF INFORMATIONAL MEDIA TEXTS (STUDY OF BBC TELEVISION NEWS PROGRAMMES)

Abstract

. The purpose of the work is the analysis of linguistic features of television informational media texts. The author points out that alongside the informational function media texts carry out the pragmatic function, namely, they manipulate the public opinion. Besides, there is a definition of the media text and some considerations concerning its specific features as compared to other types of media texts, i.e., wide audience, video image, etc. British Broadcasting Corporation media texts have been chosen by the author as the object of analysis. A number of examples from recent BBC media texts are given and their analysis is conducted. The author states that alongside the text structure and the choice of material itself much attention should be paid to linguistic means: lexical, syntactical and prosodic.
