Abstract
This paper briefly reviews the development of power transmission, pointing out the power limitations of long distance, high capacity transmission systems. The paper serves as a general introduction to a group of papers, giving the results of analytical and experimental investigations of the power limits and stability of transmission systems. This group of papers which is to be presented at the A. I. E. E. Midwinter Convention includes, in addition to this paper by Mr. Hanker, papers by R. D. Evans and H. K. Sels; R. D. Evans and R. C.
