The results of the development of these types of transport in accordance with the previous editions of the Strategy as of 2019-2020 are refl ected. It is noted that some targets of the previous version of the Strategy for railways and roads were exceeded. The problems and trends of transport development in our country and abroad at the present stage are described. The general directions of road and railway development are formulated. Special attention is paid to the innovation of Strategy-2035 — the Unifi ed Reference Transport Network and reference transport networks on the types of transport in question. The problems of the existing backbone networks of road and railway transport and the ways to solve them are described. First of all it concerns congestion of a number of directions and sections, as well as overdue repairs. The main objects of the Strategy in the transport and geographical aspect are given. Investments and technological risks are described in general. Being a fundamental document in its implications, the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation 2021 will undoubtedly serve as a basis for the development and adoption of concretizing documents of a regional and sectoral nature, including in relation to the development of road and rail transport.
