Abstract

The article aims to analyze how the relationship between working hours and schooling are configured in the trajectory of migrants enrolled in "Youth and Adult Education"  in the city of Florianopolis/SC. We start with the analysis of labor exploitation through a journey that implies the necessary work and surplus work to produce more value, which expresses the extension and intensification of work, leaving little time for dedication to studies.  The research reveals that early entry into the labor market and long hours of working are an impediment to completing schooling.  To stay in school, migrant workers must choose which aspect of their life could  be sacrificed, such as resting or leisure time.
