Abstract
This article examines the colonial anthropology in Belgium. This is done by a case study of only one anthropologist, father Van Bulck s.j. After a biography of this scientist, it will be indicated that father Van Bulck followed the lines of the anthropological school of the Central European diffusionism. By following this variant, he was an exception in Belgian anthropology. Secondly, this article searches for the perception Van Bulck had of his study objects, the black people of Central Africa. Here, it is remarkable that he followed an ‘africanisme evolue'(evolved africanism). Also by showing this behaviour, he seems to have been an exception in comparison to his contemporaries. Keywords : colonial anthropology, Central Africa, Van Bulck, diffusionism, africanism Resume Cet article s'interesse a l'anthropologie coloniale en Belgique a travers l'etude d'un seul anthropologue, le pere Van Bulck s.j.
