Abstract

This paper discusses the influence that some geographical, national and system constraints can have on the utilisation of microwave frequency bands for the digital transmission of public communications by radio. Consideration is given to the digitalisation of the analogue networks currently occupying bands between 1 and 12 GHz, the further use of bands in the range 12 to 40 GHz, and the possible exploitation of frequency bands above 40 GHz.
