Abstract
The growth in mobility due to the growing global economy has increased transportation's contribution to energy waste and its various ecological impacts. Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) represents the study of distribution strategies adopted by companies; with a major focus on reducing economic costs and customer satisfaction. Green logistics has recently received more attention in the supply chain management field, to address environmental considerations in companies' logistics operations and reduce its impact. In this paper, we present an up-to-date literature review on the Green Vehicle Routing Problem (GVRP). We propose a new classification of the GVRP variants adopted in the literature, we discuss the interaction between basic VRP constraints and the ones used in GVRP and examine GVRP solution approaches. Research gaps are identified and suggestions are provided for future sustainable logistics research opportunities.
