La globalización argelina: diversidad étnica en el Argel otomano según el padre Francisco Ximénez

Abstract

This study aims to clarify the social structure of 18th century Algiers in the time of Father Francisco Ximénez de Santa Catalina, in the context of relations between the Spanish Monarchy and North Africa. The fundamental features of these relations were establi-shed from the mid-16th century to the end of the 18th century. The ethnic diversity and the human groups that configured the globalization of the Algerian Regency, and other peculiarities will be analyzed through the three manuscript volumes of the Diario de Argel: rah 9/6.008, rah 9/6.009, rah 9/6.010. Special attention is paid to the first third of the 18th century, a period that corresponds to the stay in Algiers of the Trinitarian in his capacity as predicador mayor of the Hospital of the Most Holy Trinity, and the writing of his diary.
