Abstract
The physical performance of the police is vitally critical for human life. The purpose of this study is to analyse the actual physical fitness test used in police recruitment in the European Union member states and Turkey. In this study, which was designed for a descriptive purpose, the data was obtained by using the scanning method from the recruitment announcements on the websites of the authorized institutions for police procurements. According to the data obtained, the countries that apply muscle strength/endurance and cardiovascular endurance tests of physical fitness are among the majority. It has also been observed that agility/speed and coordination/skill tests are also preferred. Although there are no physical fitness components, there are also countries that apply swimming tests. Although there are studies in the literature that indicate the contribution of the hand grip force to the gun shot rate, it was observed that only Italy is the only country preferred the hand grip force test in police procurements. As a result, it is seen that basic physical fitness components are preferred for police recruitments. It can be claimed that evaluating the skills specific to the police profession in police recruitments will contribute to the reduction of training costs.
