Transgression Tous Azimuts dans «Waiting for the Rodeo» d’Aritha Van Herk

Abstract

Emphasis is laid not upon the Rodeo and its male feats but upon the Carnival attending it. The concept of the Carnival as the place of transgressions of all kinds is thematised in the short story by the rebellion of the female protagonist and of the author, their rejection of all constraints, social and narrative. To the feminist victory won over the magician by his female apprentice corresponds the bright aesthetic performance of the writer, who, unlike the magician, is quite willing to show her public all her ticks.
