THE USE OF PREPOSITIONAL-CASAL CONSTRUCTIONS WITH THE PREPOSITIONS ДО AND ПО FOR EXPRESSING TEMPORAL OR QUANTITATIVELIMIT: ANALYSIS OF SITUATIONS ALLOWING FOR AMBIGUOUS INTERPRETATION

Abstract

The article considers the peculiarities of expressing temporal and quantitative limit using the prepositional-casal constructions «ДО + name in gen. c.» and «ПО + name in acc. c.». It analyses the situations in which the use of these constructions does not allow drawing an unambiguous conclusion as to whether the limit named in the utterance is included in the time or quantitative range. It discusses the ways to eliminate potential ambiguity in order to ensure successful communication. Special attention is paid to the legal sphere, where the problem of expressing deadlines is characterized by pronounced acuteness and relevance.
